WriteReader - Book creating tool to increase students literacy skills

WriteReader is a research based online book creating and learning tool to increase student's motivation and literacy skills in the classroom.   This resource is exceptional for MLL students, WIDA Proficiency Level  Beginning - Bridging (2-6),  to use and apply their writing, reading , and speaking skills.  Students can create a book with illustrations from google or take real photos and record their voices to read the text. The students’ books are displayed on a shelf for their peers to enjoy.


Here are the steps to get started:

  1. https://www.writereader.com/ 

  2. Sign in under Google Classroom or create an account .  I suggest signing in with Google Classroom because  it will be easier for you and students to find the bookshelf.

  3. A class bookshelf will appear.  Click the blue  circle with the white plus sign at the far right bottom of the screen.

  4. Students begin to create their own book.  They write text, insert pictures or can take                                                                  pictures, they can change the color of their  book, and record their voice so the book can be read to their classmates.

  5. They can always go back into the program to edit their work.

  6. Here is the final class product.  The students are  engaged throughout the entire process and are  proud to display and share their work.
